Norton Commando 850 electric start M Registration, much loved, used daily for
5 years but now I've got another motorcycle!
Frame - Mark IIa 1974
- Steeper rake - best for handling
- Red roadster tank with grey pinstripe - classic early 70s look
- Removable seat - easier than the mkIII plastic hinge
- 'Loose' isolastic assembly (the best version)
- Old style aluminium Lucas wipac controls - look cooler than later plastic
ones
Engine and running gear - Mark III electric start.
- Front and rear hydraulic disc - improved stopping
- Electric start - works every time, I never use the
kickstart anymore!
Modifications
- Norvil 13" floating disc and AP caliper - original disc is more attractive
but the bike just will not stop!
- Norvil clutch pushrod seal - eliminates clutch slip for ever, no messing
with atp or whatever
- Lighter clutch plates - easier on the wrist
- Hemmings 'vernier' isolastic adjusters - easy to adjust and lock
- PW3 camshaft - much more useable power I think
- Hemmings tufnol cage layshaft bearing - anything to avoid another layshaft
disaster!
New
- Gearbox cogs and shafts (full set) 2003 after typical Commando layshaft
bearing failure
- Fork stanchions 2004 as they were pitted
- Isolastic assembly - rubbers, washers, shaft and so on) 2006 wow this bike
is really smooth
- Valve assembly 2006 after camshaft failure, top end was very coked, so all
new
- Cam chain 2004
- +10 rebore 2006
- cam followers 2006
- Pistons 2006
- Big and small end bearnings etc. 2006
Pictures look gorgeous, but notice unpainted panel and decrepit tank
painwork. Chain guard has peeling chrome also, and neutral indicator switch has
failed.
